RoseDuke silences "Silence"

Background:
As some of you may now know, RoseDuke 9d is Victor Chow, a Chinese-born South African 6d amateur player.  His play is known for being quite aggressive and prone to fihgting.  He's also known to have beaten at least two Japanese pros, Yahata Koichi 6p and Sasaki Tsuyoshi 5p, in addition to having placed well in a number of tournaments including the WAGC.

I wasn't able to determine much about his South Korean opponent, 사이런스/tkdlfjstm 9d, except for the fact that his name sounds like the English word, "Silence".  As a side note, I'll point out that "tkdlfjstm" is simply what occurs if you type 사이런스 on an English keyboard, hitting the keys that you would normally type in Korean.  Some other players have done this, including the owner of another ID that some had previously speculated to have been Lee Changho, gksrnrwja, which would be 한국점 in Korean.  Of course, 한국 is Korean, but I am not sure what 한국점 would be.  In any case, sometimes the strings of characters that seem to have no meaning can actually come out to a Korean word if you type it on a Korean keyboard.

Whether to be considered aggressive or not, the attacks started early in this game with black pressing white with Q11.  White's response at S10 was unique to me.  Both players fought for territory, with black grabbing a handful of stones with 87.  Whites stones survived in the lower left, but black kept pressing.  White attacked black's group with move 142, but black managed to jump out.  It appears that white thought he had captured the string of stones at P2, but in fact, it was black who captured white in the end, bringing the 205 move battle to a close.

Glad to hear it, Chris. When I have a bit more time, I'll go ahead and modify all of the other Tygem games I posted to be like this as well.

Of course, I'll try to maintain this format for all future Tygem articles.

I realized a new way to save the SGF files, which may allow for you to read the file in CGoban now, without making any manual modifications.

Try downloading the SGF on this page again, and see how it works for you.

Basically, you just need to save the sgf in plain text format, and English sgf editors should read things fine.

I can make this modification to the sgf file myself, but we would then lose the Korean characters.

If somebody has an alternative solution, please let me know.

한국점 possibly means "Korean Stone(s)"
for example on the Korean KGS client handicaps are denoted 2점, 3점 etc.

If you have problems viewing the SGF file with an English editor like CGoban, for example, it is likely due to the use of Korean fonts in the file, since it is from Tygem. In my experience, CGoban has had problems with this.

The sgf file is saved in Unicode format. To open it with CGoban or another English editor, do the following:

1.) Open the SGF file with a text editor like notepad on Windows.

2.) Save the file in a plain text format (not Unicode).

3.) After this, you should be able to open the file with CGoban, or your English SGF editor of choice.

The problem with this methodology is that the Korean fonts are lost. I save the sgf files in Unicode to preserve the Korean fonts for the flash editor used on this website.

The sgf (when clicking the download button) appears to be corrupted.
