Ilya Shikshin: the 2011 European Champion!

After beating Artem Kachanovskyi (whom he called "his rival") in the semi-finals, Ilya Shikshin advanced to the Finals where he had to face Catalin Taranu (who beat Alexander Dinerchtein in the last round) for the European Champion title.

The game was relayed by EuroGoTV on KGS, and it reached 730 observers! It was a very exciting game: Ilya (White) clearly outplayed his opponent (he got such a huge territory by attacking!) and he became the undisputed European Champion for the second time in a row after winning by 21,5 points this important game.

Congratulations Ilya!

The players shook hands. Catalin was also applauded by everyone.

Artem defeated Alexander today in the European third-place final so he is also to be congratulated.

Finally, Youngsam Kim finished the EGC Main Tournament in first place with the impressive 10-0 record. That is a great achievement!

It was a superb tournament. Thanks to all the players for their great games and congratulations to the winners!

Thank you all for your kind comments.
I am sorry that I couldn't cover all the games, the time was a bit short.
Mr. Kim can't win the European Champion ???title??в„ў because he is from Korea. But as L said, he won the Open (I am not sure what the prizes are this year).
It is interesting that Ilya wants more Koreans to take part in the tournament: he is not afraid of the competition! I guess we have a fearless champion :)

"Whats the difference between the main tournament and the European Championship? From your coverage, I was expecting Youngsam Kim to win the title. Im a bit confused on this point."

Last 3 rounds top 8 europeans (Kim is from Korea, so he is not included despite his 1st place in table) play knockout. So in final Taranu and Shikshin played for title, and Artem(lost to Ilja yesterday) played with Alexander(lost to Catalin yesterday) for 3rd place.

Kim won Open tournament, which went different ways with title last 3 rounds.
