EGC 3rd Round - More Exciting Happenings

In an electrifying match, Kim Youngsam ('Korondo' 9d on KGS) scored a win over Jeon Sang Youn 7d (they are both from Seoul, Korea). It was a very complicated game from beginning to end, where Kim showed great fighting skill. You can see their game here: please pay attention to B105 and the continuation; the result was impressive - Black killed the White dragons in the center! Kim's power must make his opponents tremble!

Catalin Taranu defeated Csaba Mero on board 1 by 15,5 points, and the young talent Thomas Debarre also pulled off another win (he beat Cornel Burzo today). But then, the game between Ondrej Silt and Alexander Dinerchtein stirred controversy...

Even though White (Alexander) made the game closer in yose, Ondrej was still a few points ahead. They were playing the final ko (nothing fancy, Black was leading regardless of its result) when Ondrej made a mistake (probably because of the pressure?): he recaptured the ko without making a threat!

Black had made an illegal move. We can't blame him, such mistakes can happen. Now the outcome of the game will ultimately have to be decided by the rules (Simplified Ing Rules).

If a player makes an illegal move, and if this is noticed within three moves, then the game should be unwound to the move just before the illegal move, and continued. The referee may allow an adjustment of the time.

The referees decided that the players should continue the game, so Alexander resigned and wrote a letter to the appeal committee (which will meet tomorrow).

Ondrej Silt played a good game, so playing an illegal move was unfortunate... We can say that, if the appeal committee decides that he should lose the game, it may be "unfair", but it is important to keep in mind that that would not be the fault of the players, but rather of the rules.

Again, Alex just ignore the players who know nothing about the game of go : 0 they just jealous they cant win a game and have to make up rumors to get the edge.

Why do you say that Deimos because he didnt say where he made his move at? are you so weak that you cant look at the board on your own and determine where the next move was placed? go look at the rules theirs nothing wrong with not telling your opponent where you moved and Alex did not cheat with the clock that's a rumor and if you believe it then your just as low as the person who started it.

Its a sad day for european Go when its former champion and one of the biggest role models for the young players falls so low. Is there no honor left in you Mr. Dinerchtein, that you have to resort to techniques like that to gain wins, when your strength is not enough? I viewed you as one of the greatest players in Europe, but not anymore. Greatness is not just in the moves or skill, but in the character of a person and you Sir have showed everyone that you're not a champion anymore. Just a player unable to accept a fair loss.

Fredda, in my opinion, you should at least have asked the game recorder first before posting such a bad-faith rumor.
If you are talking about respect, it is good not to forget how much dinerchtein has done (and is doing) for popularizing go. This is the wrong site for your anti-alexander propaganda

It's not true (talking about the clocks). I did not touch the volume button and game recorder can prove it. Don't share such rumors, please

What is not reported is that Ondrej asked Mr Dinerschtein where he played his last move and did not recieve an answer.

Obviously according to the rules Mr Dinerschtein does not have any obligation to answer such a question. However one could hope that a professional and a several time winner of european championships could perhaps play with a little more dignity instead of trying to win in such a sneaky manner.

Also it was reported that Mr Dinerschtein turned down the volume of the clock not long before Ondrej was about to enter byo-yomi. (Ondrej was not in the room at that moment) And Ondrej just luckily noticed that he was in byo-yomi before he was too late.

(Obviously this might not be true, but as EuroGoTV is having a video-stream, such a thing can probably easily be confirmed as true or untrue)

@Ing rules, where are you getting that the 1996 unsimplified Ing rules are being used for the current EGC in place of the EGF General Tournament Rules linked by Tom, which according to the official EGF website was updated June 2010?
