Korean amateur, who tricked Jimmy Cha in joseki


leehan2 on Cyberoro and Dashn is Kim Jongwoo, 7-dan ama.
Not the strongest amateur in
Korea, but he won some tournaments in early 90's.
In this game he used his famous hamete (I have 100+ leehan2 games
with this pattern on my database).
Actually, it's not his own invention. I saw it in Kajiwara
Takeo game long time ago (typical idea for Kajiwara!)
It was a big surprise for Jimmy Cha, it seems.

Q7 is probably the trick.
It's not Joseki move.

I don't think Q6 is the trick. It's pretty normal. White has an option to sacrifice corner, if he so chooses, or keep it and get sealed (after eating the stone at S7), which is the same as the S6 extend downwards joseki. So I'd say the trickplay is Q7. S7 is pretty solid answer and then when we compare with ordinary joseki, white is still sealed in the corner, he just made weak group with bad shape, while black can developed both sides and attack. But here I think black overplayed, cutting everywhere and trying to punish and he just created problems for himself.

Hamete is a trick move, and here I think it comes in when White pushes out at Q6 instead of extending down. There Black should be able to connect around White, but somehow Black ends up cut into several weak groups, and White gets connected for the most part.

err, what is hamete and where did he use it?

it may be his "famous" trick but i doubt anybody else ever heard of this leehan2.
